About Teresa Moreno-Casbas

Teresa had formal education in Nursing in the University of Valladolid in 1981. She obtained a Maîtrise en Sciences by the University of Montreal Canada (1991-1993) and she is obtained her Ph Doctoral degree in Epidemiology and Community Health in 2007 at the University Rey Juan Carlos. Her post doctoral work at th University of Toronto focused on health care policy, promoting safe care for nurses and patients nationally and internationally.

1985 - Intensive Care Nursing at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
1986 - Master's in Family Therapy at the Univ. Pontificia of Salamanca.
1986 - Nursing Services Management at the School of Management and Administration EADA in Barcelona.

She recently held the position as a Chair in Health Services and Policy Research. Form 1996, she is the Nursing Executive Officer of the Spanish Nursing Research Coordination and Development Unit in Spain (Investén-isciii). This unit is located in the Institute of Health Carlos III, which belongs to the Spanish the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN). From 1196 this unit has strategically sought to improve research in Nursing in Spain and now the effort is focused on the implementation of nursing research findings on the daily practice of Spanish professionals.

After 14 years of working she has achieved a significant increase in nursing primary research in Spain, through several strategies including international alliances in Europe and Latin America. She leads a multidisciplinary group of professionals, who are working for the same aims.

As a result of this effort a Spanish Collaborating Centre of Joanna Briggs Institute for Evidence Based Health Care was established in 2006, of which she is the Director. This centre is located in the Investén-isciii unit and has the support of different Spanish regions.

1. She is the Editor-in-chief of the journal Enfermería Clínica since 2004 (published by Elsevier publishing and included in Medline since 2007).
2. She is Editorial Board of Journal of Research in Nursing, Qualitative Health Research and 3. International Journal of Nursing Practice.
3. She is Adjunct Scientist of a Thematic Network (Red Temática de Investigación Cooperativa en Envejecimiento y Fragilidad - RETICEF)


Dr Moreno-Casbas program of research focuses on three objectives, (a) Enhancing evidence-based practice and knowledge transfer in nursing clinical practice and factors influencing knowledge translation, (b) Measurement of nursing process and nursing staffing characteristics and the impact of nursing on patient outcomes and (c) Clinical patient safety.
